Our big little girl turned five in July. She had a low key day, then a very fun birthday party that weekend. She’s been really into dress up and pretending. Lately she especially loves princesses so we threw her a princess pretend party. Only three friends came, but they had so much fun! We decorated with pink ribbon and purple tulle on the banister, made a throne out of the big red chair, and put balloons outside attached to stakes in the grass. We served melons and little cookies and birthday cake. We had the girls come in their favorite fancy dresses. When they arrived, they went up to C’s room to accessorize, then we had a princess ball. They danced and sung along (with the “singing machine”) and laughed at the funny noises they could make with the microphone. Aunt Marisa, and our friends Gabby and Mikaela came to help out. I think they had just as much fun as the little girls (who said there were too many big people at the ball and made them go in the other room!) connecting with their inner princess. Gabby told the story of the Princess and the Pea, then the girls took turns sitting on pillows and guessing which one the “pea” (a bouncy ball) was under. They loved hiding it for each other too. Then we played “kiss the frog.” We put lipstick on each princess and blindfolded them, and had them try to kiss the frog on the wall. They all did a great job (no one even missed the posterboard). C got some great gifts too. Grandma Lollie made the cake at C’s request, and Hy was nice enough to try some before the party.
A few days later, more cards and gifts arrived including a Kindergarten prep book that she has almost finished now. She’s so smart! We’ve been doing Hooked on Phonics and she’s getting more confident in her reading. She is such a sweet girl. We love our 5 year old!
