Hyisms

Some of the fun things my funny three year old says lately.

“I’m making graham cracker soup.”  (As he added his graham crackers to his water cup.)

*************************************

“Oh my earth!”

*************************************

“Mom, I’m shy.”  (When he’s afraid of new situations or people.)

**************************************

Me: Don’t put the Lego guy in your water!

Hy: No, he’s getting baptized!

**************************************

Mom: It’s time to go potty.

Hy: I want Daddy to go for me.

There’s no denying he’s a silly kid.  (He gets it from his daddy…and his big sister.)

C’s Math

C: Mom, I saw people walking ALL their dogs!  One person was walking two dogs, and one person was walking three dogs.

Me: Wow, that’s a lot of dogs!

C: Altogether that makes FIVE DOGS!

Me: Good Math, C!

C (confidently, because she knows she’s smart): Thanks mom.

There’s nothing like watching your child loving to learn.  I love you my smart girl!

I Love My Kids!

The other day, C was trying to stop Hy by pulling his arm, he fell and started to cry.  She got in trouble and started to cry because she was trying to be helpful (or something like that) and didn’t mean to hurt him.  I was sitting with him and he looked at me and sobbed, “She can’t cry!  I’m crying!”

I tried to hold in the laughter and show empathy, but I just couldn’t help it.  These kids crack me up!

2 Year-old Perspective

Hy: Can we go to the park?

Mom: No, it’s too hot outside.

Hy: I will put on my shoes.

Mom: Sorry Bud, it’s too hot to go today.

Hy: I said, I will wear my shoes on my feet.

(He thinks I’m worried about the ground being too hot)

Mom: But the sun is making it too hot to play at the park today.

Hy: I will wear my sunglasses to keep the sun away.

Ha ha, what a cutie!

Birthday Princess

Our big little girl turned five in July.  She had a low key day, then a very fun birthday party that weekend.  She’s been really into dress up and pretending.  Lately she especially loves princesses so we threw her a princess pretend party.  Only three friends came, but they had so much fun!  We decorated with pink ribbon and purple tulle on the banister, made a throne out of the big red chair, and put balloons outside attached to stakes in the grass.  We served melons and little cookies and birthday cake.  We had the girls come in their favorite fancy dresses.  When they arrived, they went up to C’s room to accessorize, then we had a princess ball.  They danced and sung along (with the “singing machine”) and laughed at the funny noises they could make with the microphone.  Aunt Marisa, and our friends Gabby and Mikaela came to help out.  I think they had just as much fun as the little girls (who said there were too many big people at the ball and made them go in the other room!) connecting with their inner princess.  Gabby told the story of the Princess and the Pea, then the girls took turns sitting on pillows and guessing which one the “pea” (a bouncy ball) was under.  They loved hiding it for each other too.  Then we played “kiss the frog.”  We put lipstick on each princess and blindfolded them, and had them try to kiss the frog on the wall.  They all did a great job (no one even missed the posterboard).  C got some great gifts too.  Grandma Lollie made the cake at C’s request, and Hy was nice enough to try some before the party.

A few days later, more cards and gifts arrived including a Kindergarten prep book that she has almost finished now.  She’s so smart!  We’ve been doing Hooked on Phonics and she’s getting more confident in her reading.  She is such a sweet girl.  We love our 5 year old!

Baby Blessing

We had a lot of family come to town for L’s blessing.  The next day was Ty’s graduation, so Jared got a long weekend too.  My grandma, mom, 3 of my brothers, my sisters, and my brother’s girlfriend all came and crashed at our place.  It was crowded, but so much fun!  Jared’s dad, step-mom, and all of his siblings came too.  My mom got L to laugh her first laughs.  We had hot tuna, a family favorite that my Uncle used to make.  We heard lots of stories from Mommom about her family and meeting Poppop.  We played dodge ball and basketball and chatted and ate pizza at the church.  They really take their dodge ball seriously, check out those action shots!  My mom, Mommom, Jamie, Ginelle and I got to go to the temple so that my mom could be sealed to her parents for time and all eternity.  I stayed in the foyer area with the babe and Ginelle did confirmations while the others did the sealing and Jamie was able to do other temple work for our deceased great-uncle, Mommom’s brother Nathan.  Most of my family left on Sunday, but Mommom got to stay until Tuesday (we missed her flight on Monday…oops!)  It was nice spending extra time with her because I don’t see her often.  The blessing itself was wonderful, as were the testimonies that followed.  It was a great weekend, one of my favorite visits with family ever!

Hiking With Daddy

Recently our ward had a father/son hike to commemorate the restoration of the priesthood.  Jared took Hy and they had a great time.  Hy keeps talking about it.  Too bad they didn’t get any pics with Jared in them.  Sometimes a personal photographer really would come in handy.  Oh well, I’m sure they will have many more Father/Son outings to take pictures at.
